Download These Apps Before You Travel For The Holidays
GREENSBORO, N.C.-- Whether you're planning a family vacation or a trip to grandma's house, holiday travel can be a holiday headache, but there are apps to help.
Christmas and New Year's Day fall on a Monday this year. So expect the weekend beforehand to be hectic especially at airports.
Nothing is more annoying if you are already at the airport than a canceled or delayed flight.
The app called Service will work to get compensated when that happens.
The app files a claim to the airlines on your behalf and you can get money, vouchers, and miles. I tried it myself and have $422 waiting for me.
You do need to keep a few things in mind if you use this app. You do have to enter credit card information, because Service will charge your card 30% of whatever you received. Say you were compensated 10,000 miles. You would be charged 30% of the cash value of those miles.
Once you allow Service to work on your behalf you can't change your mind if you don't like what you were awarded.
We all want to save some money especially this time of year. Between gifts and holiday travelt hat leaves you with just a few dollars unless you use the app called Hopper.
Hopper predicts the best time you should buy flights and hotels. The app will notify you when prices drop.
For example, I plugged in a flight from Greensboro to Miami from Feb 22-25th. Hopper recommends waiting for a better price, but it suggests booking before February 1st.
Driving to your destination? Download I-Exit before you go. It tracks your location and alerts you to things like food, bathrooms, and gas stations well in advanced.
Finally, don't get stuck stranded on the side of the road. If you download Urgent.ly, you will be able to connect with a call center that can make sure can get a tow, gas, tire change, battery charge or lockout assistance.
