GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A mock flight program is giving kids with autism the chance to soar.

American Airlines' 'It's Cool To Fly' event is coming to Piedmont Triad International Airport on September 30.

The program is an airport "rehearsal" specially designed for children with autism, their families, and aviation professionals.

The idea is to alleviate some of the stress that families who have a child with autism may experience when flying.

Families get to practice entering the airport, obtain boarding passes, go through security, and board a plane.

More than 30 participants have signed up for the It's Cool To Fly program this year at PTI.

Families will check in at 5:30 p.m. and boarding will begin at 7:50 p.m. The plane will taxi around the airport.
