WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest Baptist’s Animal Assisted Therapy program celebrated the furry friends that make it all happen in remembrance of Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron of all animals.

Ten of the program’s therapy dogs received a blessing in the center’s Chapel from chaplains from the Division of Chaplaincy and Clinical Ministries.

Besides a blessing, the dogs also received yellow bandanas decorated by patients from Brenner’s Children’s Hospital.

This is the first time Wake Forest Baptists has held a “Blessing of the Therapy Dogs.”

Catherine Rutter, who handles Sadie Rutter the therapy dog, have been working with patients for the past seven years.

“We laugh, and we giggle and we have fun,” Rutter said. “It’s just amazing to be a part of bringing that joy.”

After the service, attendees could pet the therapy dogs and get to know them and their owners.
