ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Christmas holiday is upon, the Biltmore House. On Wednesday, thousands of people gathered to watch a horse-drawn carriage carrying a 35-foot Fraser fir tree to the Biltmore.
The Christmas tree comes from Andrews Nursery in Avery County, N.C. It's a tradition started by George Vanderbilt on Christmas Eve in 1895.
2017 Biltmore Estate Christmas Tree Raising
The tree will be decorated with 500 ornaments and wrapped packages tucked under the tree. The 35-foot tree is a star attraction at the Biltmore each year.
The event marks the beginning of the Christmas season at the Biltmore and in a big way.
Christmas at the Biltmore is a tradition that dates back more than 120 years.
The annual holiday celebration is set for November 3, 2017 through January 7, 2018. This year’s theme is “A Vanderbilt Christmas.” More than 100 decorated Christmas trees are on display in the house and estate combined.
Candlelight Christmas Evenings in the Biltmore House will allow you to step back in time. It promises an experience like what the Vanderbilt’s guests had during their first Christmas Eve spent in Biltmore House in 1895.
The Conservatory is filled with poinsettias and offers daily seminars that provide decorating tips for guests.
You can also enjoy free tastings of Biltmore wines at the Antler Hill Village & Winery. New this year, the Biltmore Winery is decorated with 7,000 glob-shaped ornaments hanging from the ceiling.
Weekends at Antler Hill Village will feature carolers sharing Christmas favorites and Santa making appearances at the bandstand to hear wish lists from guests of all ages.
