GREENSBORO, NC -- Aggie Pride was out in full force on Saturday as North Carolina A&T State University fans gathered across Greensboro to watch their favorite team make history.

The school’s football team defeated Grambling State 21-14 to win the Celebration Bowl in Atlanta, capturing the HBCU National Championship.

It was a close game but school spirit never faded at Heads Up Barber and Beauty Shop in Greensboro.

Fans watched the game on the edge of their seats.

For shop co-owner Dwayne Shaw, the Aggies are more than just his favorite team.

The players are also his friends.

“They come in and get their haircut,” said Shaw. “It's our job to make them look good as they go out and perform on national TV.”

While a crowd of fans watched the game closely on television from the barber shop, NC A&T Chancellor Harold Martin was in Atlanta with the team and thousands of other supporters.

“There are Aggies everywhere,” said Martin. “They are loud and they've been engaged. They are so excited.”

Martin says being able to promote the university's brand on a national spotlight will help the university attract more students.

“This exposure is probably not comparable to anything that we have done in recent years to bring this kind of national exposure to the university,” said Martin.

Exposure isn't the only thing they're getting.

The team will be coming home with a championship trophy.

Shaw says the players will get a little surprise next time they come to the barber shop.

“We are very proud of you guys,” said Shaw. “Come on back home and you'll get two dollars off your next haircut.”

The Aggies’ football team finished the season with a perfect 12-0 record, becoming the first MEAC team in history to finish a season undefeated.
