WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Governor Roy Cooper and his wife Kristin Cooper delivered meals by Senior Services’ Meals-on-Wheels to local Forsyth County seniors in celebration of the six-millionth meal delivery.

One lucky senior, Ms. Rosalie Young, was served that special six-millionth meal by the Governor and First Lady themselves.

During a speech prior to the meal delivery, the Governor recognized the importance of the volunteers who deliver the approximately 1,100 meals every day.

Ruth and James Corn, Kay and Paul Crossland, Bob Stern, and Myrtie Davis were honored by the Governor for their thirty or more years of service to the Meals-on-Wheels program.

Janice and Doug Jordan are a couple who have been volunteering for 9 years.

Doug shares that what keeps him coming back is the people he serves.

“They’ve become like family to us so it’s a real pleasure for us,” he said.

He also said that anyone that would like to volunteer with the program, need only ask.
