Greensboro Families, Students Tour New Schools at Open House

Students from the schools badly damaged in the tornado will start at their new schools Monday morning. The schools gave families a tour to help make the transition easier for students.

GREENSBORO, NC - Students who attended Erwin Montessori, Peeler and Hampton Elementary schools got to tour their new schools Sunday.

Students from the schools badly damaged in the tornado will start at their new schools (Bluford Elementary, Alamance Elementary and Reedy Fork Elementary) Monday morning. The schools gave families a tour to help make the transition easier for students.

"A lot of the kids were very tense because they didn't know if they were going to stay with us. They didn't know if something happened to us and what we were doing," said Karen Phillips, a first grade teacher from Peeler Elementary. "So being able to see them, give them a hug and let them know everything is okay was a huge, huge benefit."

At the open house, teachers assured parents that kids would stay with their same classmates and teachers. They will just be in a new building.

Some teachers will have to combine classrooms for the rest of the year because there's simply not enough space for every teacher to have their own classroom.
