Summerfield is considering holding a public hearing at a future town council meeting with the hot topic being whether to allow guns at its athletic park.
Summerfield Town Hall clerk Mary Gant told WFMY News 2 a previously scheduled public hearing for Tuesday night on guns in the park was taken out of the agenda for Tuesday night. It could be up for discussion in next month's meeting. The town said folks in Summerfield have been asking where and if they can carry guns.
While the original gun ordinance was approved in 2010, the current town council has discussed the ordinance at meetings and are unsure what direction they're taking.

Currently the ordinance states “No person shall display any weapon, as defined in NCGS 14 269 (9) in Town-owned buildings, or on Town-owned property.” Exemptions are made for police officers, military, security guards and the like. The town says the DRAFT of the Regulation only applies to Summerfield Athletic Park.
