RALEIGH - A $5 scratch-off lottery ticket may turn into a ticket for a new home for a newlywed couple from Lexington.
Bridget Jones won a $150,000 top prize after scratching off a Season's Gold ticket in her car. Jones and her husband James now have enough for a down payment on their first home after winning.
Jones bought the ticket from Kelly's High Rock Grocery on NC Highway 8 in Lexington.
“I thought I was going to pass out,” said Bridget, a mother of five. “I didn’t think it was real! It still doesn’t feel real!”
“We weren’t sure what Christmas was going to be like this year. But this will really help us out. It came at a perfect time.”
Jones claimed her prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $104,253. There are four top prizes of $150,000 and three prizes remain to be claimed.
