List | How You Can Still Help Tornado Survivors in Greensboro

GUILFORD COUNTY, NC - The State of Emergency for Guilford County has been lifted.

A State of Emergency was issued for the EF-2 tornado that touched down Sunday, April 15 and impacted Guilford and Rockingham counties. The tornado caused serious damage and nearly 30,000 power outages in the county.

The Cleanup and recovery effort is continuing. The City of Greensboro sent out an update Monday with new resources for those impacted:

  • Tarps were given out at the Disaster Relief Centers on Monday. Any resident who was unable to pick one up should call the City Contact Center at 336-373-CITY.
  • Tide Loads of Hope set up a free laundry service at Evangel Fellowship Church of God (2207 E. Cone Blvd.). It will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
  • A local nonprofit has offered free counseling to tornado victims. The City will share this more information as soon as details are available.
  • U-Haul is offering one-month free self-storage to residents that were displaced or impacted by the storm at its Triad Locations.
  • Two Disaster Relief Centers are now open to assist residents: Willow Oaks Community Center, (1815 Everitt St.) or Peeler Recreation Center (1300 Sykes Ave.) Each location will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily until further notice. Representatives can help those who need long-term housing, help with submitting an insurance claim and more.
  • The Red Cross continues to operate a shelter at the Windsor Recreation Center. Eleven people stayed at the shelter Sunday night.

The city is still asking for volunteers to help at the Peeler Recreation Center and the Disaster Relief Centers. You can sign up at volunteergso.org.

Personal hygiene products, including adult diapers, and pet food are needed at the Interactive Resource Center at 407 E. Washington St.

The city says their crews have collected 1,865 tons of vegetative debris and 81 tons of construction debris. Contracted crews have collected 270 tons of vegetation.
