What You Can Do Now To Help: Tornado Relief Efforts

To aid the American Red Cross in relief efforts you can start the volunteer application process at redcross.org.

GREENSBORO, NC -- The Greensboro community needs your help. You can get involved with helping neighbors in the tornado relief efforts.

#2CARES TORNADO RELIEF COLLECTION SITE

  • What: #2Cares tornado relief donation drive
  • Where: Between Rite-Aid and McDonald's at Friendly Center
  • When: Friday, April 27 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Here's a list of items in demand:

  • Money
  • Tarps
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Toilet paper/Paper towels
  • Pet food
  • Non-perishable food items/canned goods
  • School supplies for teachers and students

CITY OF GREENSBORO VOLUNTEER SIGN UP

To further assist with Tornado relief, The City of Greensboro is providing a sign-up sheet online. Those who sign up are asked to note any special skills and desired opportunities they would like to pursue to help. You can sign up here.

AMERICAN RED CROSS VOLUNTEER RELIEF EFFORTS

To aid the American Red Cross in relief efforts you can start the volunteer application process at redcross.org.

TORNADO RELIEF EFFORT DONATIONS

You can also make donations for disaster relief by visiting redcross.org calling 800-RED-CROSS and by texting “RED CROSS’ to 90999 to make an immediate $10 donation.

VOLUNTEERS/DONATIONS NEEDED

According to Mayor Vaughn, Goodwill, the United Way, and the IRC are all collecting water, food, non-perishables and other donations.

TRIAD GOODWILL

Triad Goodwill is accepting household goods, including furniture, clothing, home goods, and school supplies.

IRC

The IRC will be the receiving location for non-perishable food and hygiene items for those impacted by the tornado. Items will be distributed directly to impacted areas.

UNITED WAY

Donate to the United Way of Greater Greensboro. Checks should indicate the donation is for “Tornado Relief.” Donation Link

BACKPACK BEGINNINGS

Fleet Feet Sports (Greensboro and High Point locations) is collecting donations on behalf of BackPack Beginnings. They're asking for non-perishable food (juice boxes, fruit cans, rice, kid-friendly snacks), hygiene products (deodorant, toothpaste, soap, washcloths) and children's clothes.

ICRCM SCHOOL SUPPLY DONATIONS

The International Civil Rights Center and Museum is serving as a collection site for new school supplies. Collection times are 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. daily in front of the museum located at 134 South Elm Street in Greensboro. The museum is closed on Sundays.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

Rockingham Rescue Mission needs the following items: Donations, non-perishable food, and hygiene products. Items can be dropped off at Rockingham Rescue Mission at 3692 NC Highway 14 in Reidsville. You can mail a check to the address but do not send cash. You can also donate Rockingham Rescue Rockingham Rescue will also set up a staging area at Ruffin Stacey Baptist Church on April 28. The church is located at 261 Estes Road in Ruffin.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

If you want to donate to the Guilford Education Alliance, you can call the warehouse at (336) 841-4332 to figure out a good time to drop supplies off. They also take cash and check donations or you can donate online through their website and on Facebook. You can also text PENCIL to 76959 if you want to donate through a credit card.

You can also drop off donations at these locations (hours subject to change):

  • East Market Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1804 E Market St, Greensboro
  • New Light Baptist Church at 1105 Willow Rd, Greensboro (7:30 am – 9 pm)
  • New Jerusalem Cathedral at 1606 Phillips Ave., Greensboro (24 hours)
  • Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 1301 Alamance Church Road, Greensboro (8 am – 7 pm)
  • Laughlin Memorial United Methodist Church, 1417 Huffine Mill Road, Greensboro (10 am - 4 pm)
