WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Winston-Salem Heart Ball proved the community has a lot of heart.
The American Heart Association says the Heart Ball, which took place on April 28, raised $232,000 for heart disease and stroke research and prevention.
The money was raised through tickets, sponsorships, and auctions.

A local family whose son was born with half a heart and has undergone open heart surgeries was honored as the 2017 Faces of Heart.
The AHA says for every dollar raised through the Heart Ball, $2.53 comes back to Winston-Salem in AHA-funded research awards.
Right now, over $1.2 million is being put toward research projects at Wake Forest University and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
