MOUNT AIRY, N.C. – Surry County Sheriff’s Office reported that 17-year-old Devan Skyler Upchurch of Mount Airy has passed away from injuries he received in a shooting on September 28, 2017.

The shooting happened at a home on Long Street around 1 a.m. Thursday.

According to the sheriff's report, a woman called 911 and said a man with a handgun shot her and her son.

When deputies arrived, they took Chad Delano Rose into custody.

Detectives say Rose is the woman's boyfriend.

The sheriff's office says the woman and son were taken to the hospital and their injuries are serious.

Rose was charged with 2 counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, 1 count felony possession of a stolen vehicle, and 1 count of felony assault on medical personnel.

As result of Upchurch’s death and further investigation, Rose has been additionally charged with 1 count of felony first degree murder, 1 count of felony attempted 1st degree murder, 2 counts of felony first degree kidnapping, 1 count of felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, 2 count of misdemeanor child abuse, 3 counts of misdemeanor assault in the presence of a minor, 3 counts of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor, 1 count of misdemeanor assault, and 1 count of misdemeanor dmage to rel property.

Rose remains under no bond.
