STONEVILLE, NC - A 7-year-old is seriously hurt, and six others have non-life threatening injuries after an impaired driver drove into multiple trees Wednesday night, according to Highway Patrol.
Highway Patrol said a collision was reported on NC 770 near Glenn Chapel Road in Rockingham County around 9:30 at night.
They say a Ford Explorer SUV was driving eastbound on NC 770 when it drove off the right shoulder of the road, back onto the roadway going left of the center line, and driving off the roadway to the left. The car then flipped and hit several trees.
Seven people were in the car at the time, including three children. The 7-year-old was ejected from the car and airlifted to Brenner's Children's Hospital. A four and 3-year-old were also transported to Brenner's, but with non-life threatening injuries.
The four adults in the car were taken to Baptist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver, Nikki Montgomery, 24, has been initially charged with reckless driving, child restraint violation, and driving while impaired.
