Deputies have been searching for Benjamin Lee Small, 23, who escaped from the Davidson County Detention Center in Lexington on Saturday.

Small turned himself into the Sheriff on Friday at around 4:55 p.m. at Bill's Truck Stop. From there, he was taken to the Sheriff's Office to be processed.

Small was taken before a magistrate where he received at $5,000,000 secured bond, and then was placed back in the Davidson County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear in Lexington District Court on July 24.

Sheriff David Grice said Small might have got as far as Oklahoma during his time on the run. Sheriff Grice also said they’ve been in contact with the family to get Small to turn himself in since early Friday morning.

"We're very grateful that he has surrendered. It saves a lot of resources, and he never did have any criminal violence in his past until he assaulted the officer," said Sheriff Grice.
