DALLAS, N.C. (WNCN) – Authorities say they have captured a minimum-security prison inmate who escaped from the Gaston Correctional Center, the state Department of Public Safety said.

Dennis Carver was serving a five-year sentence for larceny of a motor vehicle when he “left (Tuesday) afternoon while performing maintenance duties outside the prison’s perimeter fence,” a news release stated.

Carver was due to be released in March 2019.

Carver was captured at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday in Kings Mountain.

He will be charged with felony escape from prison, officials said.

“His daughter, Tonya Carver, is also being charged, with aiding in his escape,” officials added.
