ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — A man from Hamburg faces a long list of charges after police say he hit a light pole in the City of Buffalo and dragged it all the way to Orchard Park.
Orchard Park Police received several 911 calls Friday night to report a vehicle that was driving down the 219 expressway dragging a light pole.
A police lieutenant caught up with the driver on Abbott Road just south of Milestrip Road. The metal pole became dislodged, slid across Abbott Road and came to a rest across both southbound lanes.
Police say the suspect, Raymond P. Duggan, 39, then jumped a curb and drove across a gas station parking lot before his car became disabled. Officers say Duggan tried to exit the vehicle, but he was immediately arrested.
According to police, Duggan hit the 25 foot long pole on Cliff Street in Buffalo while entering the ramp to the I-190.
Police say his blood alcohol content was .13.
Duggan is charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and possession of an open container of alcohol. He also received a number of tickets for vehicle and traffic violations.
Duggan was released on bail and is due in Orchard Park Town Court at a later date.
