The Dixon Police Department is cracking down on package thefts.

Law enforcement will be placing decoy packages on the doorsteps of homes throughout the holiday season.

The decoy packages will be outfitted with motion sensors and GPS trackers so when "package pirates" steal them, officers will be able to locate and arrest them.

Police described the thefts as "utterly classless" in a Facebook post. They urge Dixon residents to use caution when having packages delivered during the holidays.

Arrange for packages to be delivered when someone is home, require a signature, or have them sent to work or a trusted neighbors home.

If you see someone you believe may be suspicious call the Dixon Police.
