RALEIGH, N.C. -- The flu has claimed its first victim of the season in North Carolina.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services made the announcement Thursday afternoon.

DHHS will not release any identifying information, but they did say the victim is an adult in the eastern part of the state who died last week from complications from an influenza infection.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends a yearly vaccination for everyone 6-months of older.
