Distracted driving is the most common cause of car accidents in the U.S.

The CDC says it's not just your cell phone, it's anything that takes your eyes off the wheel. So that can be eating, admiring the scenery and objects in your car.

AAA conducted a new study that says technology built into the dashboard is becoming a major distraction.

Here's how researchers came up with their conclusion. Volunteers drove 30 different vehicles on a residential road. They measured how much drivers had to look at the screen and think about what they were doing while making a call, sending a text or using the stereo and navigation system.

They found drivers were distracted for more than 40 seconds when programming their navigation device or sending a text message.

Now some automakers already ban some features from being used when the vehicle is moving.

AAA is hoping their results will get more automakers to follow suit.
