WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Despite working out seven times a week, Mark Long still had one pressing concern. He couldn’t get a flat stomach. So he turned to The Spa At Highland Oaks in Winston-Salem. They recommended CoolSculpting. It’s supposed to be targeted weight loss for:

“Those stubborn areas that you’ve been trying to get rid of for years," said Mya Cohen with the Spa,

They attach a machine to your trouble area that sucks the fat in and makes it very cold. It freezes the fat cells and they’re supposed to wither away and about technicians say 25 percent of them should die off completely.

“Unlike with weight less where you just shrink down the fat cells with CoolSculpting, you actually eliminate the fat cells in totality at a certain point," Cohen said.

You leave the machine on for 30 to 45 minutes at a time. And about a third of people will need a second treatment.

“It’s not painful. About 3 to 5 minutes you’re going to feel the cold, almost like you put the area in snow," Cohen said.

The results for Long are downright impressive.

“I can’t be happier. Everybody looks at me and says if you’re not happy, something’s wrong," he said.

But will it work for you too? The latest medical journal to talk about it says “there is a lack of substantial research" but there is “a high patient satisfaction rate of up to 73 percent after one treatment.”

"At first I was like really, no. okay it’s just another gimmick. But it’s not!" Long said.

We can verify: cool sculpting works in the majority of cases.

It starts at about $750 and goes into a few grand depending on what all you want done. Again you may need more than one treatment.
