GREENSBORO, NC – You know you should have a fire extinguisher in your kitchen. But where in the kitchen? And where else should you have an extinguisher?

Greensboro firefighter Naomi Dixon joined us on 2WTK.

“It’s key to have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen, but not where the fire source probably is.” So, look around. Don’t put your extinguisher in the cabinet directly above the stove and not in the cabinets right next to it either.

Fire extinguishers should also be in any other place prone to fire like a furnace area, garage or workshop. And here’s a big take-a-way, the extinguisher needs to be in a bedroom or bedroom closet.

“You want extinguishers to be placed along escape routes in the house. And you want one on every level of the house.”
