JACKSONVILLE, NC--A community is in mourning after it's believed the body of 3-year-old Mariah Woods was found Saturday afternoon.
A memorial was set up in Onslow County near the home where Woods lived. Woods lived there with her mom and the mom's live-in boyfriend, now charged in the case.
Sunday, those visiting the memorial struggled to describe how they were feeling.
“It is just devastating,” said Nelson Bolster. “I mean, you don’t know what to say about it.”
Bolster lived in the neighborhood for more than 40 years.
The memorial is open on Dawson Cabin Road in Jacksonville. Anyone is free to visit or leave something in Mariah's memory.
Authorities believe they found Woods' body in a Pender County creek.
The boyfriend, Earl Kimrey, was charged with:
- Concealing of Death
- Obstruction of Justice,
- 2nd Degree Burglary
- Felony Larceny
- And Possession of Stolen Property
Kimrey is due in court Monday. The FBI said they are awaiting results from the medical examiner's office for positive confirmation. Investigators canceled the Amber Alert for Woods around 7:30 Saturday night.
