Elon University has suspended one of its fraternities for multiple violations including alcohol-use.

The campus chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha will not be able to return to campus until at least fall 2021.

An Elon University spokesperson said the suspension is the result of a student conduct hearing that determined the fraternity failed to comply with sanctions previously put in place.

The sanctions came after the chapter was found responsible for multiple violations of Elon's code of conduct relating to alcohol use and off-campus activities in November 2016.

Elon University says Lambda Chi Alpha was directed to halt social events through May 2017 and to hold no events with alcohol through January 2018. The student conduct hearing found that the fraternity violated those sanctions this past spring and this fall.

The school says staff from the Division of Student Life will work with the national headquarters of Lambda Chi Alpha and alumni of the Elon chapter to communicate the expectations that must be met before the fraternity is able to return to campus.
