GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The anticipation surrounding The Cheesecake Factory opening in Greensboro has been simply crazy.
If you need proof, just look at the WFMY News 2 Facebook post on the subject. In a couple of hours, it had more than 1,000 likes and about 900 shares.
It's hard to think of another time when a Triad restaurant had such a hype surrounding its opening, but for some reason The Cheesecake Factory has hit a chord.
Both customers and new staff members are glad the wait is over.
Plate by plate, food runner Alexandra Ott is delivering a much anticipated meal to hungry customers. "It's been hectic but it's been well worth it."
The Cheesecake Factory's grand opening is one many people in the Triad have been waiting for, including 18-year-old Ott who remembers going to the company's Tampa location as a young girl.
"Every time we went there, we always had to stop at the Cheesecake Factory, it was my favorite place to go," said Ott.
It hasn't been easy. Employees had two weeks of training and a final test to know the more than 250 menu items. It’s a standard and a reputation the company doesn't take lightly.
"We know that many guests have been dining with us for years in other cities and have great memories of those dining experiences and we have to live up to those memories," said Alethea Rowe, Public Relations for The Cheesecake Factory.
More than 100 people were waiting in line when the restaurant first opened. Even with a consistent 75-90-minute wait, customers didn't seem to mind.
"Cheesecake Factory's food is delicious and I'll wait, I'd wait for it," said one man.
"I really like it and the food's really good," added a young customer.
It’s a reputation Alexandra said she's ready to help carry on. "It's a great feeling knowing you've prepared and worked so hard for this and it's finally coming true."
One concern is parking at Friendly Center. Employees park in other lots so the limited spaces outside the restaurant can be used by customers. You might have better luck parking near Belk or Sears.
