Family Of Six That Was Staying In Burlington, Still Not Back Home Yet

For the past few days they've been staying in Burlington with another family of 6, but left town to go stay with family in Alabama on Monday.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. -- — The Copeland's, who we told you about earlier this week still haven't been able to make their way back home to Wilmington.

The Copeland family consists of a Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, two kids, and a dog.

For the past few days they've been staying in Burlington with another family of 6, but left town to go stay with family in Alabama on Monday.

"I'm ready for it to be over," said James Copeland, the father in a FaceTime interview.

The feeling is not quite frustration, just a feeling of wanting.

"I think it's tougher on my wife and I than the kids. The family is kind of getting to the point where enough is enough. Ready to get back home," said Copeland.

The Copeland's stayed with their friends the Tang's in Burlington last week. Now, in Birmingham they're still left with many unknowns.

"Was our unit one that had windows smashed in? Did we take in water from the rain? Was there a roof leak that the apartment complex didn't know about because we haven't been home? So yeah, there is some of that wondering," said Copeland.

One thing that is known?

Family is stronger than Florence.

"We've been saying that we're making memories. There are stories that we're going to get to tell not only for our family, but our church plant -- about how everything began. We've got all kinds of stories," said Copeland.

The Copeland's say they're going to try and go back this Sunday to Wilmington, but remember they also said that last week.

They've been told there is limited damage to their apartment, but they're still left to wonder.

There is still very little road access into Wilmington, which has made getting back tough. The Copeland's just started a new church in Wilmington, so they're ready to see how everything held up, but they're also ready to get back and serve their community.
