HIGH PONT, NC -- Each May we celebrate National Museum Month and this year WFMY News 2 is visiting some of our favorite museums in the Triad to show you what they have to offer.

If you're looking for history, fun and family events, the High Point Museum is the place for you. The museum offers permanent exhibits that speak to the history and culture of High Point as well as changing exhibits to offer something new each visit.

The Core Gallery looks into High Point's past with displays ranging from Native Americans living in the area to the effects of Great Depression. It wouldn't be High Point without furniture and that's exactly what you'll see in the Furniture Heritage Exhibit with original pieces and recreations showcasing High Point's rich history. The Meredith's Miniatures is a popular attraction with mini-rooms crafted by a High Point native.

Adjacent to the museum is Historical Park - an area with three historic buildings dating back to 1786. The museum is also working to restore an old, red schoolhouse for a new exhibit just outside of the museum's main building.

If you're unable to travel to the museum don't worry - their website allows you to take a virtual tour and explore exhibits without leaving your home.

The museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Admission is free. You can find more information on their website.
