GREENSBORO, N.C. -- You can shop, socialize and support the United Way of Greater Greensboro this week.

The organization's annual Handbags for Hope event takes place Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 5:45 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Greensboro Country Club.

You can bid on hundreds of designer handbags and accessories valued anywhere from $5 to $1,000. Bidding at the event guarantees you walk away with a deal. The best part is you will help the United Way of Greater Greensboro's mission to end poverty.

"With an increasing poverty rate of 20%, United Way decided to focus the organization's work on breaking the cycle of poverty in our community," said Julie Longmire, who works with the United Way of Greater Greensboro.

"It's a wonderful event with our women's leadership members," she added. "We will have about 300 people in attendance. It's a great way to celebrate and make an impact in our community."

There's a live and silent auction as well.

"Though the actual event is sold out, you can still register on our website to bid on the silent auction items," said Longmire. "You can also volunteer and get involved with United Way."

Proceeds benefit United Way of Greater Greensboro and it's work with women and families in our community.
