Today you have the chance to give the gift of life at the WFMY News 2 Holiday Blood Drive. And some of you are afraid of giving blood. You might be afraid of needles, pain, passing out, contaminated needles or discovery of an unknown medical condition that would disqualify you from being a blood donor.

To help yourself get over your fear, change your mindset. Focus on your end game which is saving someone’s life. When you keep your goal top of mind, it’s easier to manage your fears and help you cross the finish line.

Take control of your fear by tackling it head on. Go donate with a friend, which will help distract you. Also, tell the American Red Cross staff about your fears. They've helped many people who've had fears. You might be surprised the ways they'll be able to help you.
