GREENSBORO, NC -- Don't 'kick' yourself for missing out on a chance to sign up your child for YMCA youth sports -- opportunities that have proven to boost both physical health and academic achievement.
A YMCA of Greensboro spokesperson emphasizes children who play sports also have higher levels of social support and a sense of community created with teammates, coaches and family members.
Registration for spring sports initially closed Feb. 28, but the Bryan YMCA reopened it to potentially recruit more children to sign up. Other YMCA locations might have openings, too (call your local Y to check on availability). The new deadline is Thursday, March 15, and this registration must be done in person.
Spring sports include flag football (ages five to 11) and soccer (ages three to 12).
Summer sports include t-ball, modified t-ball and basketball. T-ball and modified t-ball registration will open April 1, and summer basketball registration will open in May (specific date to be announced).
