GREENSBORO, NC -- Mother's Day is right around the corner and if you haven't bought your mom a gift - don't worry. The Centenary United Methodist Church is hosting their annual Mother's Day Plant Sale and it helps a great cause.
For 27 years the church has sold plants and donated the profits to Habitat for Humanity Greensboro. They've raised more than $100,000 since the sale began.
It came to be after George and Estelle Cranford drove past a different plant sale in Greensboro - they introduced the idea to their Sunday school class and the rest is history. When WFMY News 2's Maddie Gardner asked Mr. Cranford if he ever thought the plant sale would be as big as it is now he said, "of course!'
From Geraniums to Verbena, hanging plants to herbs - the plant sale has it all. Organizers say the plants sell out early so make sure you pick your favorite flower before it is gone. Some patrons return each year. Pastor Kelley Groce says it's somewhat of a reunion.
The sale is happening Thursday through Saturday at Centenary United Methodist Church on Friendly Avenue it Greensboro. It begins at 8:00 in the morning and ends at 6:00 at night. Plants range from $3 to $15.
