GREENBORO, N.C. – The Guilford County Animal Shelter has a new director.

Guilford County named Jorge Ortega as the County’s new Animal Services Director.

Ortega will start his new role on January 2, 2018. He has more than 20 years of experience in the animal welfare field. He has served as Senior Director of the ASPCA’s Adoption Center, Kitten Nursery and Canine Annex Rehabilitation & Enrichment Center located in New York City. He was also the Vice President of Operations for two progressive animal welfare organizations, the Houston SPCA and the Humane Society of Charlotte. He has also served on numerous boards for animal organizations around the country.

Marty Lawing, County Manager said, “I am looking forward to having Jorge in the County’s management staff and leading the Animal Services Department.”

Justin Conrad, County Commissioner also said, “It’s going to take the entire team to make the Animal Shelter successful; our partners, our citizens, and our staff. I have been very impressed with Jorge; he brings a lot to the table. I believe the County has chosen a great leader to move the shelter forward.
