High Point Woman Dies After Possible Medical Emergency That Led To Crash: Police

Witnesses and family members told police the crash happened after Tia Ashcraft had a medical emergency.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — A High Point woman died on the way to the hospital after a crash Wednesday night. The accident is believed to the result of a medical emergency. 

Tia Ashcraft was traveling south on Westchester Drive when she drove off the road, hit a light pole and crashed into a tree. Ashcraft's 2002 Mercedes Benz came to a stop in the northbound lanes of Westchester Drive around 8:50. 

Police responded to the crash in the area of 1715 Westchester Drive. Their preliminary investigation indicates that Ashcraft left the road to the right between Chestnut Drive and Phillips Avenue and hit another vehicle on Westchester Drive. 

Witnesses and family members told police the crash was the result of a medical event suffered by Ashcraft, 42. Ashcraft, the only person in her car, was pronounced dead before arriving at the hospital.
