PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. -- The Triad is taking its shot! The deadline to put in a proposal for Amazon's second headquarters is Thursday and Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point already have a joint bid on the way.

The popular company plans to bring 50,000 jobs and $5 billion in investments to the new site and have opened bidding for regions around the world. The competition is fierce, including major metropolitan areas like New York City and Boston, but Triad leaders weren't afraid to put their hats in the ring.

Bob Leak, President of Winston-Salem Business Inc., is leading the charge in the Triad, saying they sent their bid Wednesday afternoon electronically and by snail mail.

He couldn't get into specifics yet on what the Triad can offer in terms of incentives, but typically they center around job creation and investments.

"Our hope and our goal is that Amazon comes to visit and gives us the opportunity to show them the various options before they make a decision," Leak said in a phone interview with WFMY News 2's Erica Stapleton.

Leak also says they detailed 6 sites around the Triad that would be good places to build the headquarters in the proposal, but couldn't comment on what they were.

The Triad is touting its location, lower cost of living and proximity to colleges and universities to try and lure Amazon.

The company isn't expected to make an announcement until 2018.
