NC Mom Who Created 'Rocks for Hope' Dies of Cancer

RAEFORD, N.C. — A Raeford mom who used messages of hope and strength painted on rocks has died of cancer, her family confirmed to WNCN/CBS 17. 

Ashley Linden's father, Bill Reaves, posted to Facebook Sunday night saying "Ashley Reaves Linden has won the fight."

Linden and her children would paint the message on rocks and leave them around cancer centers.

She called the project "Rocks for Hope."

Linden spoke with WNCN's Maggie Newland in June 2018 about the project.

"We do it just to make others smile, but it keeps us close as a family. This is a huge family project," explained Ashley Linden. 

Diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer in 2014, she went through multiple surgeries and at least nine different chemotherapies.

She was in hospice care when she spoke with Newland last summer.

In her final months, remained focused on helping others and helping her children.

"It's kind of like my legacy — leaving my legacy for them to help others," Linden said.
