LEXINGTON, N.C. -- Davidson County's first Chick-Fil-A will be opening Thursday, October 26, in Lexington and to say people are hyped is an understatement.
Dozens of folks plan to spend the night in the new restaurant's parking lot for the sake of free food. Chick-Fil-A gives the first 100 customers at any new restaurant one free meal a week for a whole year. Campers came prepared with tents, blankets, pillows and various ways to keep themselves entertained.
This new spot isn't just a big deal for the chicken enthusiasts; it's a big deal for Lexington. It's a sign that economic growth is trending in the right direction. Lexington Mayor Newell Clark says it's a trend they've been seeing over the past few years. He said it started with redesigning City Hall and revamping the city's uptown.

"I think a lot of our local citizens started to see that our government is investing in us and from there created that confidence in them to do the same," Clark explains.
He says a lot of local businesses have been popping up, like City Fitness, an old feed shop turned fitness center, and Sophie's Cork & Ale, one of the many new eateries. Then there's a push for more big business like the Lidl grocery store and Chick-Fil-A near at Plaza Parkway.
"Really the pitch is we've always been here but come rediscover the coolest city in the Triad. And people give me that look - Lexington?! And I can say that with confidence because when people come here they're not disappointed," Clark tells.
