Mayor Donecker released a statement on Friday saying, "As mayor, veterinarian and a dog owner I am saddened by the loss of Mr. Pascal’s dog, Auger. Our city administration is moving as quickly as possible to have an outside agency complete its investigation of this incident. I would urge the general public not to rush to judgment without knowing all of the facts, and to be patient while the investigation is being conducted."

The Paschal family was doing work on the impound lot's fence when their dog Auger was shot. The family says Auger barked several times, and then the officer shot at him several times. It's unclear what prompted the officer to fire his gun. The police department has offered its condolences to the family, but the Paschals say they just want answers.

Mayor Donecker says the officer has been placed on administrative duties because he's been receiving threats.

An outside agency is investigating the incident.
