WINSTON-SALEM, NC - One of the crash victims in last week's accident where a driver was going the wrong way on US 52 has died.

Jean High, 80, of King, died from her injuries she suffered in the crash according to the Winston-Salem Police Department. High was a passenger in a car driven by David Stafford with Jeri Stafford, also a passenger. Both David and Jeri are recovering at the hospital.

The driver, Roberto Jose Martinez Lemus, has had his charges amended to Felony Death by Motor Vehicle. Lemus was also charged with:

  • Driving While Impaired
  • No Operator’s License
  • Careless and Reckless Driving
  • Traveling the Wrong Way on a Highway

Lemus, 28, is at the Forsyth County Detention Center under a $200,000 bond. Police say Lemus was driving north in the southbound lanes of US 52 by himself.

High's death marks Winston-Salem's 13th car-related death of 2017 after only having five at this time last year. The crash was reported in the area of Liberty Street near Smith Reynolds Airport and Akron Drive.
