DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- Highway Patrol says the driver in a deadly crash in Davidson County has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and reckless driving.
The single-vehicle crash happened after 11 p.m. Saturday on Old Salisbury Road near Haden Grove Church Road.
Troopers say James Dimery, 18, was speeding around a curve when he lost control, ran into a ditch, and hit a drain pipe causing his car to overturn several times before stopping.
Former West Davidson student Kevin Crisp, Jr., 19, died at the scene. The back passenger, Austin Ferrell, 18, was treated and released from Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Dimery is at Baptist Hospital in ICU. He is listed in serious condition and is using a breathing tube.
Trooper Deel says speeding appears to be the main cause of the crash.
Dimery and Ferrell are current students at West Davidson.
