GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- Long lines at the polls could soon be a thing of the past. Dozens of additional early voting locations opened across the Piedmont Triad Thursday.
Crews have been working all week to get the new locations ready.
In Forsyth County, the Board of Elections opened 16 locations throughout the county. Elections officials expect the additions to lessen wait times.
To help make your voting experience more pleasant, the county also created a web-based app to help you find your early voting location and its wait time at any point during the day.
In Guilford County, long-time poll worker, Jimmy Maness, spent Wednesday afternoon setting up 20 different polling machines at Craft Recreation Center on Yanceyville Street.
"Each election has its own challenges," Maness explained. "But after 16 years working at the polls, you know how to adapt."
The Board of Elections has some measures in place to make sure these new sites stay secure.
"When we deliver the machines and set them up, we close these up and do tamper evidence seals," Elections Director, Charlie Collicut, said. "That way if someone were to tamper with the machines overnight the election workers would know because the seal would break."
They also recalibrate each machine every morning. This ensures the machine can read a voter's touch.
