A tribute to YOU - My 2 Cents

WFMY News 2's Maddie Gardner is taking a job with our sister station in Hartford but before she goes she thanks you for your support.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's time for 'My 2 Cents.' My last '2 Cents.'  And it only feels right to make it a tribute to you.

Because it was you who welcomed me to the Triad. I grew up in Mount Airy, went to college at UNC in Chapel Hill but when I moved to Greensboro you made this place home.

It was you who watched me go from a WFMY News 2 intern, to a reporter, to weekend mornings anchoring alongside Ed Matthews, to GMS every week day, all the way to my spot here on the Four 2 Five.

It was you who said hello at the Lexington Barbecue Festival and who celebrated with me at Fun Fourth in Greensboro.

It was you who trusted me to tell your stories, bring you big news, sad news and important news.

Without you, none of what we do here is possible. Without you, there is no community, there is no progress, there are no festivals, there are no stories to tell.

Thank you.

I am excited for what's coming up next, to see what's out there. I've never lived anywhere but North Carolina and I know this next journey will bring a lot of change.

Life happens, things change, people grow and move but it doesn't mean the past stays behind. I am taking everything with me. And that's what makes it possible to go forward.
