Why I'm listening to Christmas music in September - My 2 Cents

WFMY News 2's Maddie Gardner rocked around the Christmas tree, jingled bells and had a holly jolly Christmas before the first day of fall.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's time for 'My 2 Cents.'

I put on Christmas music this morning. Sure did. Don't come for me.

I rocked around the Christmas tree, jingled bells and had a holly jolly Christmas with my morning coffee. Do I know it's September 15th, yes. Do I care? Not really.

Christmas makes me happy. The decorations, the music, the magic – I thrive during the holiday season and this morning. I just needed a bit of that in my life.

No, I don't have any decorations up. They're still in storage for a few more weeks and I won't make the switch to holiday tunes all day, every day until after Thanksgiving. But the little bolt of Christmas spirit was exactly what I needed this morning.

And I know some of you will disagree, you'll say it's too early, you'll say I'm not respecting the turkey or even the jack-o-lantern this year, but I am not going to apologize for doing what makes me happy if it's not truly harming anyone else. And you shouldn't either.

Listen, we all need to do more of what makes us smile. Especially during hard times. It's just for me, that's singing Darlene Love's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) and simply having a wonderful Christmastime in September.
