Wyndham Volunteer Hasn't Missed A Tournment In 57 Years

At 90 years old, Harold Moag has been volunteering at the Wyndham Championship for longer than most than most of the golfers playing have been alive.

GREENSBORO, NC -- At 90 years old Harold Moag has been volunteering at the Wyndham Championship for longer than most than most of the golfers playing have been alive.

He's seen a lot happen after almost six decades of the tournament.

"It’s very interesting to see particularly in the number of people that come to the tournament. Because it’s a different group of people every year," he said.

And he says it's those people that keep him coming back year after year.

It all started when a large number of volunteers dropped out.

"That particular year in 1959, we didn’t have the best weather that spring so a lot of the folks that usually helped with the Greensboro Jaycees were not helping," Harold said.

So he stepped in... and never looked back.

"And then from then on it’s just something I enjoyed doing," he said. "So when that time rolled around and I was working, I got time off and said, ‘I’ll be gone that week,' and it’s happened ever since."

Harold's official job is directing traffic between the fourth green and fifth tee. He makes sure cars stop for pedestrians and nothing distracts the golfers. He often tells people to keep it down when a pro is putting.

Unofficially Harold is a greeter, a friendly face, and a Wyndham expert. He enjoys answering questions about tournaments past and present.

Under his straw hat he reminisces about his fondest Wyndham memories.

"I’ve seen Sam Snead, I’ve had the opportunity to be with Sam Snead a several times," he said. "I had the opportunity to be with him the first time he was presented the Sam Snead cup."

And after 57 years, you could almost say Harold is a legend himself.
