GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, announced today that the two teams will donate $10,000 to the Guilford County Schools Relief Fund in the wake of the devastating storm that hit Greensboro last Sunday. In addition, Hornets Sports & Entertainment employees in both Greensboro and Charlotte will participate in a collection drive to donate school supplies for use by students affected by the tornado.

“This is a difficult time for our city and it is important that we support the community we call home,” said Swarm President Steve Swetoha. “With education being one of the primary community pillars of both the Swarm and the Hornets, and three schools being closed due to storm damage, we felt this was a natural place for us to make an impact. Two of the closed schools hosted group nights at our games this past season. These are our neighbors and we are fortunate to be in a position to help the youth of our community who are being uprooted from their normal routines by this disaster.”

The Guilford County Schools Relief Fund, created by the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, will support tornado relief efforts at Hampton, Erwin and Peeler Elementary Schools with guidance from GCS Superintendent Dr. Sharon Contreras.
