GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The world's number one junior golfer finished on top of the leaderboard and one stroke shy of a tournament record at this year's AJGA Wyndham Invitational.

Vilips, came into the final round of play at Sedgefield Country Club's Pete Dye Course with a 9-stroke lead Friday. He closed out with a 3-over-par 73 on day four and finished six strokes ahead of the next golfer at 10-under for the tournament.

The win marks his third career invitational title.

“It feels great to finally get the win here,” he said. "I’ve played this tournament three years now, and I got third, fourth and to finally get the win is pretty huge for me at such a pretty prestigious place."

Thursday, Vilips tied the competitive course record with a 10-under-par 62 in the third round.

Now, he joins an impressive list of past champions that includes names like Brian Harman and Justin Thomas.

"It’s definitely a good stepping stone to win a tournament like this and to see what I can do with the rest of my career," Vilips said.

Jeewon Park finished second at 4-under, and former Wyndham Invitational champion Eugene Hong and Gordon Sargent were tied for third at 3-under.
