'Hubble was like HD, James Webb is more like 8K and beyond' says Ron Settle with the GSO Science Center

Greensboro Science Center planetarium experts explain why the new discovery is lightyears ahead of previous technology.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — NASA released several new breathtaking images of the great beyond from its new telescope, and those images are pretty unbelievable.

If you're not an astrophysicist it may be difficult to actually tell what you're looking for, but today we went out to the Greensboro Science Center to get more insight into these new images.

Ron Settle has worked for the Greensboro Science Center for close to 30 years. He told us today, that these images have been something he's been waiting on for a very long time.

"We've been waiting on this big day for years and years, and as excited as I was before the release, I'm even more excited now that I've actually seen the imagery. I really didn't anticipate it would be as dramatic and beautiful as it is. It has overachieved my expectations so far."

These new images show unbelievable pictures of stars and galaxies, all throughout outer space. In 1990 the Hubble telescope produced our first images of the universe, now almost exactly 32 years later NASA's James Webb Space Telescope produced the most distinct and beautiful image of outer space we've ever seen. So according to Settle, comparing the Hubble to James Webb is almost unfair.

"We've had Hubble for beyond 30 years, and the images have been beautiful. Hubble looks at the universe in visible light so you expect the pictures to be something very appealing to the human eye. James Webb is looking at the universe in a wavelength of light we can't see... Hubble is like HD and James Webb is like 8K and beyond."
