GREENSBORO, N.C. — Wednesday is expected to be a wet one. As a result of overnight rain, parts of our area woke up to flash flood watches.

In Mt. Airy, at least one road was flooded out and closed.

The Department of Parks and Recreation said on Facebook that Riverside Park, Tharrington Park, and Rowe Park will be closed until further notice. Granite City greenway will also be closed from Riverside Park to Carter Street due to flooding and damage from rain overnight.

There was a report of a tree down on NC-66 Old Hollow Road at Camp Betty Hastings near Walkertown and Patrick County Schools announced a delayed start.

“Due to hazardous weather conditions, Patrick County Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, September 22. Twelve-month employees will report at 9 a.m. Please note, further announcements may be made should weather conditions warrant.”

Here in the Triad, we can expect extensive cloud cover and rounds of on and off showers that will continue through much of the day. Weather is expected to turn more severe later in the day.
