Asheboro Hosting Pigs & Pedals This Weekend

ASHEBORO, N.C. -- It's a weekend of barbecue, bands and bicycles in Asheboro, and organizers are expecting it to bring more than 5,000 people to the city this weekend.

Pigs and Pedals features two major attractions: a barbecue competition and fast-paced cycling.

Dozens of competitors are heading to downtown Asheboro to compete in the barbecue cooking competition with their eyes set on a $12,000 purse. The barbecue contest is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. The event also features Criterium bike racing, which will bring cyclists from across the state and region to compete in a six-course racing circuit.

The festival kicks off in downtown Asheboro Friday at 6 p.m. with music from the Castaways. Day one will feature music, and for the first time ever in Asheboro, a beer garden.

Saturday, the fun continues from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with bike racing, barbecue competitions, food, music and more.
