Joan Rivers: Cleveland Captives 'Got To Live Rent Free'

CLEVELAND (WKYC) -- Joan Rivers isn't backing down.

The comedienne vows she won't apologize for a joke she made on the Today show this week about Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight -- the three women held captive for years in Ariel Castro's home.

The comment came Tuesday when Rivers was asked what it was like living in her daughter's guestroom.

"Those women in the basement in Cleveland had more space," she said. "It's just the worst."

When Al Roker put his head down after the comment, Rivers asked, "Too soon?"

On Wednesday, attorneys for Berry and DeJesus released a statement in which they demanded an apology, calling her comment "hurtful" and "disappointing."

Reacting to the request for an apology, Rivers told TMZ it's not going to happen.

Instead, she reverted to more jokes.

"They got to live rent free for more than a decade," Rivers told TMZ. "One of them has a book deal. Neither are in a psych ward. They're OK. I bet you within three years, one of them will be on Dancing with the Stars."
