A free over-the-counter medicine giveaway day is set for Greensboro on Friday.
Those who come can get $100 worth of over-the-counter products such as allergy relief, pain relief, indigestion relief, cold medicine, first-aid and vitamins. The giveaway is open to anyone who needs medicine.
Health screenings for blood pressure, glucose and more will also be provided thanks to the Cone Health Congregational Nurses Program.

- Where: New Light Missionary Baptist Church (1105 Willow Road, Greensboro)
The Greensboro over-the-counter event in March served 834 and helped 98 uninsured people get help. The event is sponsored by United Way of Greater Greensboro in Partnership with NC MedAssist.
NC MedAssist is identifying people who are uninsured to enroll in their free prescription medication program to get the medications they need that may be beyond their financial reach, says Kristin Young, Foundations Communications for NC MedAssist.
United Way is a grantor of the giveaway through the Community Enrichment Venture Grant, with funds from the Bryan Foundation.
Medicines are donated by Second Harvest Food Bank.
“United Way of Greater Greensboro is pleased to bring the Over the Counter Medicine Program back to Greensboro,” stated Community Impact Manager Carie Jones-Barrow. “The OTC GiveAway Day is expected to have a huge impact. Our goal is to improve the health of our community one person at a time. We know that even with insurance, many individuals cannot afford OTC product. The GiveAway helps those individuals fill their medicine cabinets with needed items such as children’s Tylenol, cold medicine and even Band-Aids.”

“It’s really a collaboration of community partners coming together, setting up this event, and we are delighted that we may see a thousand people,” said Young.

In the last fiscal year, NC MedAssist distributed more than $5.4 million dollars of donated OTC medication to North Carolina individuals and clinic partners.
